Married Mountain Weekend 2017

March 6, 2017

This was our third annual married mountain weekend (see the first one here), something that we made a tradition our first year of marriage. In the beginning it was just three couples and Bokeh. We had all been married that year and were looking for community, a place to openly talk about what was hard, was was joyful and what it looked like to serve our spouse and honor The Lord in our marriage. As the years went on, we continued to add couples that had got married. Last year we added Blair and Quinn, and this year we added Rachael and Brentice. What a blessing this weekend has been for our marriage. Our lives continue to change – we’ve now added babies and more fur babies to our families, but this weekend has stayed the same.

The only way that it has stayed this way over time is because we have fought hard for it. We don’t all live in the same cities or states even, so seeing each other is a fight. A fight against other plans and excuses. A fight of distance and time and vulnerability, but it’s so worth it. To have these married friends who fight to know and love us deeply has been one of the greatest gifts of our marriage.

P.S. I just love these real images. Pajamas, bed head, no makeup and glasses. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Tulum, Mexico

This year, Jamie and I went to Tulum, Mexico for a whole week to celebrate Jamie’s new job, as well as all of our other 2016 milestones. Tulum has been on my travel bucket list for a couple years now, and I was thrilled to finally visit!

Because we planned our trip on short notice, we weren’t able to get one hotel reservation for the whole week, so we stayed in two different locations which ended up being so much fun. The first half of the week we stayed at Be Tulum. Think tropical forest meets white sand beaches meets trendy, with dreamy beach beds, comfortable yet stylish rooms, and swanky beach club. The second half of our trip, we stayed at Cabanas Tulum, which was more of a beach club, with clean white decor and a delicious smoothie bar in the lobby. These two hotels couldn’t have been more different, which made our trip a lot of fun!

Some of my favorite things about Tulum:
1. It’s small and intimate
2. You can walk or ride a bike to see the whole strip
3. The beaches are gorgeous and go on forever
4. The food is incredible
5. The cenotes are unlike anything I have ever seen

Tulum, you are full of delicious food, wonderful people and breathtaking views. Thank you for giving us an unforgettable week! We’ll be back!

Steamboat Springs, Colorado

August 24, 2016

This summer, my best friend Mary Courtney and I flew out to Steamboat Springs, Colorado to spend a long weekend with my mom and it was one of my favorite trips of the summer! For the past couple of years, my mom has moved to Colorado for the summer to train for her upcoming races, hike and explore, and because she just loves it out there, and I don’t blame her. The weather is amazing – think warm days, cool evenings, and zero humidity and the mountains are breathtaking.

We packed our long weekend with tons of amazing activities, most of which took place outside. We tubed down the Yampa River, hiked Devil’s Causeway, Fish Creek Falls and hiked up the Steamboat Springs Ski Resort and took the gondola down, went to the local rodeo two nights in a row, and woke up early to go to the annual hot air balloon rodeo.

Charleston Romantic Row House

August 3, 2016

calliedavis-9weststreet-1018 When Jamie and I visited Charleston in April, we stayed in this Historic Romantic Downtown Row House. It is a newly renovated, two story, one bedroom row house with tons of gorgeous natural light and an “Old Warm Charm.” It’s just 2 blocks away from many restaurants, shops and historic sites, and we were able to walk (or bike!) everywhere. We loved the way that it made us feel like we were coming home after a long day, instead of a hotel room! If you are planning a trip to Charleston, we would highly recommend it!
