Under the Oaks: Photography & Videography

January 23, 2015

After we chose our wedding date and venue, we quickly continued to move forward with booking other large vendors, including our photography and videography. In my opinion, these vendors were the biggest decisions for me, not only because we would remember our wedding day by what they captured with their eyes but because these vendors are the only vendors that would be standing by our side throughout the whole day.

When choosing your photography and videography vendors, consider these important questions:
1. Do you like their style? Their posing? Their editing? Imagine yourself in their images or films.
2. Plain and simple, do you like them? You will be spending a lot of time with these vendors and it’s important to like them as people. Do you think they will understand your vision and purpose for your wedding day?
3. Do you like their means of communication? Will they understand and honor your needs and requests?

Videography – Heartstone Films

There was not a doubt in my mind that we were going to include videography in our wedding budget and let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions that we made. We could not be more happy with the finished products. Jamie and I talk frequently about how special it is that we get to share these moments with each other and hopefully our children and grandchildren forever. Yes, photography is very important to me, but I have a different respect for videography. In some instances, the moments captured and words said just can’t be captured with photography.

Simply put, Chris, Toni and their team are so talented. They work hard on the wedding day, but in a way that you feel like they are not even there. They went above and beyond for our wedding day and we are so thankful for them not only as our videographers, but our friends as well!

nancyray-caljamwed-3368 When I was a sophomore in college I began following Nancy Ray’s blog (WAY before I started working for her), I knew that I wanted her to photograph my wedding day. Fast forward four years later, she had become one of my closest friends and I honestly could not imagine anyone else photographing my wedding. I trust her completely and knew that I would be able to fully enjoy my wedding day, with her capturing every sweet moment. Yes, it’s true. She was a bridesmaid AND my photographer. Her and her husband, Will are incredible. We also had Geoff and Cheyenne Schultz there to help while Nancy was being a bridesmaid. We are forever grateful for all of their hard work, as well as the amazing images that they captured! And you better believe I wanted to make sure that they enjoyed our wedding as guests. I had a place setting for all of my vendors, so they didn’t have to eat in the back. Nancy and Will were also able to enjoy the dance floor during the reception (something that I required of them!) Not only would I recommend these vendors as a wedding photographer, but also as a bride.
